Many different Operating System users like Unix/Linux/OSX use ssh every day without thinking too much about it. Windows users use a third-party application like Putty to login server remotely. When you utilize public-key authentication to SSH to a server and select (by default or something else) to forward your agent, you are opening yourself up to a trivial attack by any user with root privileges on that server.

Setting up the Environment

As we are performing this demonstration with the help of a terminal we need to start the ssh-agent manually. If we were authenticated in from the GUI many operating systems will spring up a window and offers to save your key in the agent for you naturally.

ssh-agent makes a UNIX socket file in /tmp. It gives a valiant exertion to verify them by making a registry prefixed with ssh-, chmod'ed to 700 and is possessed by the user who signed in.
